Day 22 – Fear Not
Luke 2:10-14 ESV
Focal Scripture: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
According to Spurgeon: It may seem difficult to approach the Most High, all knowing, all powerful God, but all can approach Jesus. Those that feel too weak can approach Jesus because Isaiah 42:3 speaks of how gentle he is. Those that fear not entering heaven due to God’s disapproval can find comfort in Jesus. He knew what it was like to be tempted, yet never sinned. He can sympathize with us when we are tempted and sin. Some feel lonely, like no one cares about them. They can turn to Jesus knowing that He cares deeply for them. Some fear confessing their sins to God. They can turn to Jesus and confess their sins to Him. He died to forgive those sins. Others fear praying to the Most High God. You can turn to Jesus and pray to the Father in His name. Others feel unfit to stand before God, but you can stand before Jesus. After all, if He was found with thieves and prostitutes how could He turn us away. Others struggle with trusting an invisible God. You can trust Jesus, God in human, visible form. If you can approach Jesus, you can approach God, they are one and the same.
God Incarnate The End of Fear -Sermon delivered Dec. 23, 1866
My Thoughts: John 14:9 “Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” One thing we can all agree on is that there is no perfect person. Christian’s take it a step further and can confess that there is no one without sin. It is this very condition that required Jesus. This truth required a sacrifice. That sacrifice was the ultimate act of love on display. This display was for those present, those in the past and for the future generations to come. God, The Father, showed His deep love for us through the life, purpose and death of Jesus. Through Jesus we are all forgiven. Through Jesus we are redeemed. Glory be to God and that baby laying in a manger. That baby who came to change the whole world. We can all come to Jesus. If we can accept the son and repent, then God too will accept us. Those who seek Him will not be turned away.
