Day 4 Born a King

Micah 5:2 ESV

Focal Scripture: “But you O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are you too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days”

According to Spuergeon: Bethlehem is “too little to be among the clans of Judah” yet Jesus was born to that clan. Jesus was born not on “Bashan’s high hill, not on Hebron’s royal mount, not in Jerusalem’s palaces. But in “the humble yet illustrious, village of Bethlehem.” We too are like these little ones. No one has ever heard of us. No one thinks much of us. We might not think much of ourselves. We are despised among men or despised ourselves. But we have comfort in this truth: “Big hearts never get Christ inside of them.” He lies in little hearts/humble hearts. Jesus comes to those that are low in spirit, with a broken heart. Jesus came as a king. He was born a king. He was born the King of Jews. No one else has been born a king. People are born as a prince and it isn’t until time passes and their father, the king, dies that they are crowned king. “Born a child and yet a king” -(Song lyric from Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus)

The Incarnation and Birth of Christ-Sermon delivered Dec. 23, 1855

My Thoughts: The King of kings, the LORD of lords, Jesus could have been born anywhere He wanted. To the best family, to the greatest clan, in the best city, in the best building, but he chose what was too little to be counted. He chose the smallest clan, Bethlehem. He chose a poor family, Joseph and Mary. He chose a humble place, the manger. He still chooses the humble heart to dwell in. Those that are proud and think highly of themselves have no room for Jesus in their hearts. It is only those that are broken hearted and lowly in spirit that can experience a true encounter with Jesus Christ. The only one to be born a king.

Prayer Note:

  1. May we remain humble in spirit casting aside all pride
