Day 11 – The Greatest Possible Joy
Luke 2:10 ESV
Focal Scripture: “And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
According to Spurgeon: In Luke 2:10 we see the first evangelist of the gospel, the angel. It is fitting that it starts its message with “Fear not.” Human nature fears the presence of God. Our sin always accuses us. The law makes us more aware of our sin. God’s goodness, glory and splendor is so great that to see Him would be to die. But the angel says “fear not.” The angel says I bring you great joy! God no longer is a judge on a throne. He is now our Father, looking upon His children with love. In this we have great joy. Whosoever receives Him experiences “the greatest possible joy in the human heart.” Earth offers such small joy in comparison to heaven’s immeasurable joy.

My Thoughts: There is great joy that can only be attained with God. Our spirit can be comforted in knowing we have a way towards salvation and reconciliation with God through Christ. The world might be able to offer some momentary happiness, but true joy can only be given by God. True joy can only be reached through a life given to God. This joy remains with us regardless of our circumstances or trials. The story of Jesus's life and death brings joy to those that hear it. We know that we will not be condemned but are redeemed through this ultimate act of love and sacrifice.
Prayer Note:
Help us share the gospel to all those around us
