Day 1 The First Act of Grace
Genesis 3:15 ESV
Focal Scripture: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
According to Spuergeon: This scripture is God giving the serpent his sentence after Adam and Eve’s transgressions. It is the first sermon given to humanity and it was delivered by God. He said the woman’s seed would crush the serpent’s head. This was the promise of salvation given to all the world. This word must have also brought comfort to Adam and Eve, allowing them to see a future for themselves. If there was going to be a seed, they would not experience condemnation. If this seed would rise up and crush the serpent’s head, there must be a future with good in it. Satan is and will be defeated. And this is Jesus' purpose and mission, to destroy the devil and restore our relationship with God. Jesus will come again to finish this mission and utterly destroy satan, his works and followers, and we will reunite with Him. Placing this enmity between Christ and Satan started the plan of mercy for all humanity. This was the first act of grace from God and in it, we can find hope and joy.
Christ the Conqueror of Satan-Sermon delivered Nov. 26, 1876
My Thoughts: With the curse, came the blessing. Due to the tremendous, perfect, undeserved love God has for us, He sought a way to reunite us to Him once more. Faced with the shortcomings of humanity and our predisposition to sin, He knew we alone could not bring goodness or salvation upon us. When given the perfect conditions and left to our own devices, we would choose sin. Because we serve a good God, a loving God, a merciful God, instead of eternal and well deserved damnation, he gave us a promise. The promise materialized in Jesus Christ our Savior. His birth was the beginning of the promise and His death was the fulfillment of that promise. The whole world may rejoice in the birth of Jesus knowing that through Him we are forgiven of all our sins. Through him we can be in good standing with God and be called His children. On this day let us rejoice in the promise given out of love, the promise of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Prayer Note:
A heart of thanksgiving because God created a way to save us. To reunite our souls with His in salvation, in Heaven.
Gratitude for the work done on the cross.
